Collection includes two booklets: Catalogue of Musical Exhibition and Programme of Exhibition Concert Recitals. Farmer's Blaxland Galleries, August 21st to 25th, 1933; and Pierre Vidoudez : Maitre Luthier. Geneva : Pezzotti, [between 1940 and 1949]. The collection includes letters from Ernest, Ruth and Dafydd Llewellyn, William E. Dolphin, Sheina Ramsay, Roy Malan, Lionel Tertis, Jean Frere, Zlatko Balokovic, and Lady Evelyn Barbirolli. There are newspaper cuttings, a list of instruments crafted by Smith, drawings of the violin construction process by Dafydd Llewellyn, and letters relating to the sale of A. E. Smith's Quartet of Instruments to the Australian Government. Includes a transcript of a talk given by Smith on radio 2BL in June 1934, entitled 'The Romance of Violin Making'. Also includes photographs of Smith, his workshop and shopfront, family, and instruments. There are photos of A. E. Smith with Ruggerio Ricci; Lauri Kennedy; Roy Malan and Yehudi Menuhin.

Solo violinist, chamber music player, orchestral leader, conductor, teacher and music administrator. Llewellyn was leader of the Queensland State String Quartet, 1944-48, Concertmaster of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, 1949-64, and Director of Canberra School of Music.
